After a career in Arts Administration and the Charity Sector, Ruth trained as an Occupational Therapist at London South Bank University, graduating 2009. Ruth worked as an Occupational Therapist in a variety of mental health settings for South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, before moving to Colchester and joining the Eating Disorder Service at Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust. Ruth became part of the Essex County Council Long Covid Service in May 2022, covering the N E Essex area and working jointly with East Suffolk & North Essex NHS Foundation Trust.
