Specialist Children’s Occupational Therapist, Vigere OT Cornwall
Louise is an experienced Children’s Occupational Therapist with a holistic family centred approach. Motivated to find creative ways to support children to learn, play and interact with their environment, Louise has a specialist interest in early intervention, sensory development and the mother infant bond aswell as supporting children with learning disabilities to maintain good mental health. Since qualifying 10 years ago Louise has developed specialist knowledge and expertise in a range of paediatric areas including: child development, trauma, acquired brain injury, neurodevelopmental conditions, developmental coordination disorder (dyspraxia), learning disabilities and mental health. Louise is an Accredited Sensory Integration Practitioner (ASI) and applies principles of Sensory Attachment Intervention (SAI) when understanding the needs of a child or young person. In addition to co running Vigere OT Cornwall, Louise works as a specialist occupational therapist within two special schools in Cornwall and is regularly commissioned by the KCG to provide specialist assessment for young people and adults with autism, considering their mental health and sensory processing needs. Prior to this role, Louise worked within the NHS, supporting children with moderate to severe learning disabilities and mental health concerns within Cornwall. Louise regularly enjoys providing training and workshops aswell as guest lecturing for Exeter University courses, the NHS, schools and has recently written a training program with her business partner Rosie Gibbons. Through Louise’s extensive work with children and young adults with a wide range of physical, emotional and learning needs she has developed a specialist interest in understanding how a child has and is experiencing the world, as only then can we begin to help them grow and feel safe within it.
