Laurie attended Cardiff University to complete their degree in occupational therapy in 2017 and has since worked as a qualified occupational therapist in South Wales. During this time, they worked within low and medium forensic mental health services for both male and female service users. The role within this setting focuses on routine development, risk management, developing meaningful occupations, skill building, independence building and community re-integration. Laurie now works as a Band 6 occupational therapist in a residential college for students with Autism and/or a learning disability. The role within this setting is focused on sensory processing, sensory informed therapeutic interventions, developing and maintaining a positive routine, accessing education, working towards students' educational goals, aids and adaptation provision, alongside a focus on developing functional skills and increasing independence.
