Engagement Manager,
Limbless Association
In March 2013 I was involved in a RTA (motorbike) sustaining a broken leg and other injuries. After many operations to rebuild me, I unfortunately contracted sepsis and it resulted in me becoming an above knee amputee. The clinical care I received was fantastic but the shock, the grief, the loss for me and my family was overwhelming. When I was discharged home from hospital that’s where the challenges really began, navigating a new life beyond the clinic room seemed inconceivable. I was surrounded by clinical experts but needed more to support me. After a chance meeting with the Limbless Association I’d found what I was looking for and received the guidance and support across a multitude of topics I was looking for. This included speaking with an LA Volunteer Visitor (trained peer mentor) who honestly changed my outlook on living with limb loss. The lived experience they shared was a gamechanger.
