Experience the Elizabeth Casson Feature Zone – A Powerful New Addition to This Year’s Occupational Therapy Show
This inspiring new space celebrates the life and legacy of Dr Elizabeth Casson, founder of occupational therapy in England, while bringing her pioneering spirit to life for today’s practitioners. Designed to engage, educate and energise, the Feature Zone will be one of the most important and talked-about areas at this year’s show.
Honouring a Trailblazer
Dr Elizabeth Casson (1881–1954) was a woman ahead of her time – the first female medical graduate from the University of Bristol and founder of the UK’s first school of occupational therapy, Dorset House. Her belief in the healing power of occupation transformed healthcare practice and established the foundations of the profession we know today.
The Elizabeth Casson Feature Zone pays tribute to this remarkable legacy through rich storytelling, historical insights and interactive exhibits that explore how the Elizabeth Casson Trust continues her work. Visitors will discover how the Trust supports professional growth and innovation across the UK and beyond through research, education and funding opportunities.
A Space to Learn, Connect and Be Inspired
Far more than a historical display, the Feature Zone invites visitors to get hands-on and inspired. True to Dr Casson’s ethos of “learning by doing,” delegates can take part in interactive activities, meet partners supported by the Trust, and explore the groundbreaking projects currently shaping the future of occupational therapy.
Adding an element of fun and reflection, attendees can also take on inspiring challenges created by friends of the Trust – pledging their own commitment to growth and leaving with renewed motivation to #BeMoreElizabeth.
Why It’s a Must-Visit
At a time when occupational therapy is evolving rapidly, this new feature offers visitors a chance to reconnect with the profession’s roots while exploring the opportunities shaping its next chapter. It embodies the spirit of innovation, courage and inclusivity that continues to define the field.
“We are thrilled to be working with the Elizabeth Casson Trust to bring this Feature Zone to life. It’s not only a chance to celebrate the incredible legacy of Dr Elizabeth Casson, but also an opportunity for today’s occupational therapists to see how her pioneering spirit is being carried forward. We believe this will be one of the most inspiring and talked-about areas of the show.” — Matt Govett, Event Director, Occupational Therapy Show
Dee Christie OBE, Chair of the Elizabeth Casson Trust adds, “All at the Elzabeth Casson Trust are excited to share the life and legacy of Dr Elizabeth Casson, the profession’s founder in this country, and the work of the Trust now. Elizabeth’s vision is still clear in all that the Trust does to further occupational therapy, and we want to share that vision and encourage occupational therapists to #BeMoreElizabeth in their everyday lives and practice.”
Whether you’re a newly qualified practitioner or experienced occupational therapist, the Elizabeth Casson Feature Zone offers a unique opportunity to celebrate your profession, expand your thinking and leave inspired to shape its future.
