This session considers the phenomenon, in social care and health care, of “custom and practice”.
And how, whilst convenient, it can be distinctly problematic from a legal point of view.
The session will be illustrated with many examples relevant to occupational therapy.
These will include manual handling, safety, risk - and the various blanket equipment and adaptations policies applied by local authorities and the NHS.
Spelling out the potentially adverse consequences for people in need, for compliance with the law, and for sound professional practice.
