Inclusive Employment for adults with Learning disability and Autism – LIVE Project

As Occupational Therapists we know that there is a link between occupations, health and wellbeing. Work is one of the three main occupations that as OT’s we consider when working with people.

NHS Digital report 5.6% of adults with a Learning Disabilities within England were in paid employment between 2019/2020. When 53.6% of all the disabled community and 81.3% of the general public are employed, this number is disappointingly low.

Essex County Council have set out over a 5 year period to improve the outcomes of people with Learning Disability and Autism within the county, with one element of this focusing on work.

The Inclusive Employment/LIVE Project was therefore developed. Working jointly with ECL, who are commissioned to deliver the project, we have been working to change perspective to get people thinking of work as the first port of call for adults with Learning Disability and Autism.

Speakers
Kate Gotts, Occupational Therapist - Essex County Council
Nilofer Saiyyed, Senior Occupational Therapist - Essex County Council
