Occupational Therapy is sometimes described as a profession that is too quiet, too accepting and not one to rock the boat. This presentation explores some areas where Occupational Therapists have used activism to bring about change both within the profession and the wider healthcare environment. We will consider how individuals and collectives can influence including the tools and mechanisms that can achieve success. Finally, we will consider the wider social and political environment and consider the occupational therapists role in identifying and challenging social injustice on a wider scale. We will consider whether the aim of helping people to function at. their optimum level should be confined to our clinical practice or taken into the world in general.
