Occupational Therapists assessing for proportionate care: The role of postural care in shaping effective care plans

27 Nov 2025
Theatre 3

In an ever evolving and expanding world of expectations for occupational therapists, this session explores how OTs can assess and recommend proportionate care, ensuring individuals receive the right level of support while promoting comfort, function, and quality of life. Using real case studies, it highlights the pivotal role of postural care in shaping effective care plans, identifying risks, and informing appropriate levels of care, while also considering the need for suitable and sufficient training to implement these plans safely and effectively. The session will be delivered by Norma Jane Findlay, Head of Clinical Operations at A1 Risk Solutions, who brings over 24 years’ experience in assessing care needs across all ages and delivering advanced manual handling training.

  • Understand the principles of proportionate care and how occupational therapists can balance support needs with independence and quality of life.
  • Recognise the importance of postural care in assessing risk, informing care plans, and promoting function and comfort.
  • Apply case-based learning to identify appropriate levels of intervention and ensure recommendations are tailored to individual needs.
