Co-producing evidence-based change: enhancing adult social care occupational therapists’ engagement with research, through participation

26 Nov 2025
Theatre 3

Improving Adult Care Together (IMPACT) launched a twelve-month Demonstrator project in March 2025, focused on ways to facilitate improved engagement with research, by occupational therapists in Adult Social Care and to coproduce a new theory of change to support national adoption. A recent report highlighted rising demand and pressures, with weak OT workforce planning and future resourcing challenges.
The team used the IMPACT model of co-design and evidence-based change in the West Midlands, open to 14 Local Authorities, to surface OT barriers/enablers for sustainable improvements, collaborating widely and including people drawing on care and support.

  • To better understand the drivers and opportunities for professional practice improvement in Adult Social Care.
  • To reflect on the IMPACT change model and local requirements that might be deployed to improve personal engagement with research
  • To share the demonstrator work with colleagues, catalysing improvements within wider adult social care occupational therapy services.
