Rebuilding work identity after brain injury: an interdisciplinary approach

26 Nov 2025
Theatre 2

This session will explore the connection between work and identity; the threat and impact that an inability or difficulty performing or participating in work can pose to an individual’s identity. Using theoretical underpinnings to reflect on clinical practice, this session will consider ways to identify disruptions to identity and support individuals with rebuilding their identity after brain injury, and the benefits of using an interdisciplinary team approach. Although explored in relation to brain injury, the content of the session can be considered for all of our clients in relation to work.

  • To understand the link between identity and occupation
  • To reflect on how we consider an individual’s identity and disruptions to it in our own clinical practice
  • To increase understanding and knowledge of strategies that can be implemented in clinical practice, and the benefits of interdisciplinary working, to support individuals rebuild their work identity
