This presentation will explore how Sensory Integration theory and practice can be applied in nuanced, evidence-informed ways to support neurodivergent children—particularly those with overlapping profiles such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and Developmental Coordination Disorder. As awareness of sensory processing differences grows, there is a pressing need for occupational therapists to deepen their understanding of SI beyond basic sensory strategies. This talk will equip attendees with a richer clinical lens and practical tools to support children with complex needs in a variety of settings.
- •Understanding Sensory Integration:A brief overview of Ayres Sensory Integration® (ASI) theory, including theneurological underpinnings of sensory processing and how disruptions in sensorymodulation, discrimination, and praxis can impact a child’s ability to function, learn, and self-regulate.
- •Complex Presentations in Practice:Drawing on clinical experience, Dimitrios will present case examples where sensorychallenges intersect with emotional regulation, motor planning, and socialparticipation—highlighting the importance of differential assessment and tailoredintervention.
- •Assessment and Interpretation:How to use standardised tools (e.g., SIPT, EASI) alongside clinical observation andcaregiver input to build a meaningful sensory profile that informs interventionplanning.
- •Embedding SI in Real-World Contexts:Practical strategies for integrating sensory-informed approaches into schools, homes, and community settings—especially for children who may not fit neatly intodiagnostic categorie
