When people deteriorate in a hospital setting they become almost undischargeable. Systems focus on doing what they usually do often blind to how changes in environment have brought about the difficulties they are trying to manage. As the media covers “bed blockers”, finances are strained and providers charge phenomenal amounts to restrict in the community – this presentation explores the role of the occupational therapist in building meaningful, sustainable lives outside of hospital while making significant cost savings.
