Beyond the books: supporting college student wellbeing with an occupational therapy perspective

26 Nov 2025
Theatre 1

Two qualified occupational therapists have transformed a mainstream college mental health and wellbeing service to provide practical and emotional support for young people. Using real-life examples, they will explore the challenges faced during this life stage and demonstrate how occupational therapy–informed practice can help students develop resilience, emotional regulation, self-awareness and positive identity.
They aim to equip students who access this service, with the skills to manage their wellbeing more effectively, thereby supporting greater engagement in college life and improved capacity to manage academic demands.

  • By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
  • 1.Identify key functional challenges commonly experienced by college students with mental health needs, including barriers related to executive functioning, emotional regulation, and occupational balance.
  • 2. Understand how Occupational Therapists equip students with skills and understanding to manage their own wellbeing.
  • 3.Demonstrate the importance of mental health support in mainstream colleges.
