This case study highlights a 5-year rehabilitation journey of a patient with traumatic brain injury (TBI), using a gamified therapeutic program. The approach combined virtual self-training with therapist-guided sessions, leading to significant improvements in balance, confidence, and functional independence. Real-time feedback and adaptable programming supported motivation and long-term adherence, while reducing therapist time and increasing scalability.
- Gamified rehab enhances adherence: engaging, feedback-driven platforms can sustain long-term participation—even in patients with cognitive or motivational barriers post-TBI
- Remote, adaptive therapy is scalable: virtual self-training programs, when paired with minimal but targeted therapist input, can be both effective and time efficient
- Multidisciplinary integration matters: embedding digital rehab within occupational therapy, physio, and neuropsychology support enhances functional outcomes and promotes holistic recovery
- Empowerment supports self-management: gradual shift from therapist-led to self-directed training fosters independence and real-world functional gains
