Competencies for Occupational Therapists working with individuals with ARFID
There is a lack of guidance concerning best practice for occupational therapists (OTs) working in the treatment of Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID). The absence of guidelines can lead to role uncertainty and poor articulation of the role of occupational therapy within the field of ARFID. This workshop aims to raise awareness of the role of occupational therapy in the treatment of ARFID and offer practical guidelines in the form of competencies.
Based on published evidence, international guidance around standards of practice for occupational therapy, and professional judgements of expert occupational therapists in this field, an occupation-focused competency framework is proposed.
- A greater understanding of ARFID and the occupational impacts of living with ARFID.
- An understanding of the role of OT and its distinction in the field of ARFID.
