Turning Occupational Therapy into Something Magical
The Breathe Magic Intensive Therapy Programme (BMITP) is an award-winning, evidence-based intervention combining occupational therapy with the art of magic to support young people achieve their functional goals.
Grounded in clinical evidence and aligned with NICE guidance (CG145), the programme delivers over 60 hours of intensive, goal-oriented bimanual therapy. Working alongside Magic Circle magicians, specialist occupational therapists use carefully selected magic tricks to encourage two-handed actions, problem-solving and performance skills, creating a motivating and joyful context for therapy.
Outcomes show clinically significant improvements in bimanual task performance, participation and psychosocial wellbeing, with benefits maintained at six months.
“Archie has made the most incredible achievements, he is like a different child who is able to do things we never thought would be possible, he is getting himself dressed and able to do so many things independently.” Young Magician Parent, BMITP 2025

Breathe also uses magic to support mental health improvement for groups with a wide range of challenges, with a particular focus on children and young people's mental health and wellbeing.
Alongside Breathe Magic, Breathe delivers other arts-in-health programmes including Breathe Melodies for Mums, supporting maternal mental health, and Breathe Dance for Strength and Balance, co-designed with NHS physiotherapists to improve mobility and confidence among older patients.
