Oysta reduces delays in hospital discharge
)
Oysta know the challenges that hospital and social care teams face getting medically fit patients home from hospital. Staff shortages and tie to arrange care packages leads to hospital discharge delays we are currently facing across the UK and how that impacts the NHS, social care professionals, including occupational therapists, as well as individuals and their families too.
It is estimated that at the start of this year alone over 13,000 beds were filled with medically fit patients who could have been discharged to continue their recovery at home, however due to challenges providing social care support these patients could not be discharged.
Our Oysta digital care solutions have helped many councils improve their hospital discharge process to allow medically fit patients to be discharged from the hospital and still receive the ongoing social care support they need at home.
Using Oysta care technology, Camden Council was able to discharge patients needing at-home support up to three days faster. This reduced pressure on the NHS by 630 bed days, equating to over £252,000 in savings, which would have otherwise been occupied by patients awaiting social care assessments rather than hospital treatment.
One Camden resident who was given an Oysta device stated that:
“After a long stay in hospital I was desperate to get back to my own home. The staff at the hospital gave me a device whilst I was still on the ward so I could get used to it and I was surprised with how easy it was to use. On one occasion I used my Oysta Pearl to call for help after a fall and within 20 minutes the Careline team were at my door to help me.”
Oysta are looking forward to discussing how these cost-effective solutions can speed up the discharge process for individuals back into their communities and for other social care and NHS Teams.
Demonstrating our solutions , we will show how this proactive and preventative approach to care enables individuals to remain living independently post-discharge, as well as reduce the risk of re-admission, and the dependency on care homes.
