How Motability Scheme can support the work of Occupational Therapy
We're pleased to be returning to the OT Show for the second year, where we'll be sharing how the Motability Scheme can support occupational therapists in helping people achieve greater independence through improved mobility.
The Motability Scheme provides mobility solutions to more than 800,000 disabled people across the UK. Eligible people can exchange their qualifying mobility allowance to lease a brand-new car, Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV), scooter or powered wheelchair through an all-inclusive package that includes insurance, servicing, maintenance, breakdown cover and tyre replacement.
As a powered wheelchair user, I've seen first-hand the difference the right mobility solution can make. In my role as Scheme Stakeholder Executive for Healthcare, I work with healthcare professionals to increase awareness of the Motability Scheme and how it can support the people they work with.
Occupational therapists are often well placed to recognise when mobility is affecting someone's independence, participation or ability to carry out everyday activities. Understanding how the Scheme works can help OTs identify when it may be appropriate to signpost someone, address common misconceptions about eligibility and support people to make informed choices about their mobility options.
At our Innovation Theatre sessions, we'll explore who is eligible for the Scheme, the range of mobility solutions available and how greater awareness of the Scheme can support occupational therapists in achieving the outcomes that matter most to the people they support.
Join me, Ross Smith, and Sian Robinson, Micromobility Dealer Partnership Manager, in the Innovation Theatre on 25 November, 09:50–10:20, or 26 November, 13:20–13:50. I'll also be in the Networking Lounge after each session and would be happy to answer any questions.
