Materials, finishes and thoughtful details behind the Lana Collection

STEPS Inclusive Design Stand: F19
Materials, finishes and thoughtful details behind the Lana Collection
The Lana Perching Stool combines lightweight construction with thoughtful design, making it easy to lift, move and handle in everyday use.
Assistive products should offer practical support while feeling at home in everyday spaces. With the Lana Collection, we've combined thoughtful design, innovative engineering and carefully selected materials to create perching and shower stools that balance functionality with contemporary style.

Practical support that doesn’t look clinical

A product is about more than its overall shape. The materials, finishes and small functional details all affect how it looks, feels and works in the spaces where it’s used. With the Lana Collection, we’ve brought together the Lana Perching Stool and Lana Shower Stool, giving each its own features while keeping a consistent look and feel.

We wanted the collection to offer practical support but not feel or look clinical in any way. The sculpted forms and choice of colours help give both the stools a look of regular furniture rather than an assistive product.

The Lana Perching Stool: light, sculpted and adjustable

The Lana Perching Stool is a Class I medical device and weighs just 5 kg, making it light to handle. Its sculpted polyurethane seat is paired with a flexible nylon backrest and an anodised aluminium frame.

Height adjustment was an important part of the design, so we developed a new mechanism with people with reduced dexterity in mind. The pull tabs are easy to find and use, and the integrated locking pins secure the selected height. Fixed armrests complete the stool.

Tool-free assembly and feet that help water drain

We also wanted the stools to be straightforward to assemble on delivery, so no tools are needed. The custom-made feet have been designed to help water drain away, while providing a secure grip and a non-marking contact with the floor.

The Lana Shower Stool’s sculpted ABS seat

The Lana Shower Stool has a sculpted ABS seat, with its own distinctive form. We carefully considered the texture and finish of the ABS, especially at the ergonomic touch points.

Engineered with NorthSky Design

Engineering played an important part in getting the collection to this point. We worked with NorthSky Design throughout the project to develop the stools from design to manufacture and achieve the refined, premium finish we wanted.

From the adjustment mechanism and tool-free assembly to the choice of materials, colours and feet, we’ve thought about how each detail works in everyday use. That’s what we believe makes the Lana Collection stand out: practical support, thoughtfully designed and finished to feel at home.
