Improved arm function with assistive arm supports from Rahana Life

Rahana Life Stand: F20
Improved arm function with assistive arm supports from Rahana Life
Assistive arm supports
Assistive arm supports are a group of devices which facilitate arm movement by supporting and positioning your own arm. The featured image illustrates how they cradle the arm. The device holds enough of your arms weight to enable you to lift and move your arm around. Arm supports enable people who are struggling to lift the weight of their arm due to muscle weakness or fatigue. They are commonly used by people with neuromuscular conditions (such as muscular dystrophy, spinal muscular atrophy and motor neurone disease), spinal injuries and chronic muscle pain and fatigue.

How do arm supports improve arm function?

Rahana Life’s range of arm supports deliver independence to perform daily living, exercise, work and leisure tasks by:

- Enabling users to lift, lower and reach

- Keeping the muscles and joints in motion

- Maintaining arm movement and residual strength

We supply the Armon and Orthopus range of arm supports which include both mechanical and powered units. Through our clinical assessments, Rahana Life carefully find the best arm support to match the needs of each client, to optimise lifestyle gains, rehabilitation and muscle retention.

Emily’s experience

Emily has muscular dystrophy and was unable to lift her arms. She tells us how the arm  supports have helped her to retain and regain arm function.

Emily tells us how the arm support improved her life.

“The difference the arm support made was apparent from the off. Wow, it really is a game changer!

Not only can I comfortably lift cups of coffee and forks  full of food to my mouth without compromising my posture, I don’t spill or drop half as much on the floor so less cleaning up as well – win win!

I’m back cleaning my teeth with my dominant hand, I don’t get toothpaste dribbling all down my chin and I can brush my hair without leaning off the wheelchair at awkward angles.

The arm support helps with my creative hobbies too, such as knitting and holding musical instruments. And then there’s the facilitation with various exercises. I can lift my arm laterally and also touch my opposite shoulder, something I’m unable to do without the support. This will undoubtedly help me manage my muscle weakness long-term.”
