Expanding Opportunities for Therapists and their Clients

Active Hands Stand: F06
Expanding Opportunities for Therapists and their Clients
Rob, CEO of Active Hands, works out using his gripping aids for reduced hand function
The Active Hands Company has nearly twenty years experience of supporting users with disabilities that affect their hand function. Our gripping aids support people with spinal cord injury, limb difference, cerebral palsy, brain injuries, stroke survivors, tremors and many other conditions. We are a one-stop shop for all products that support acts of daily living, sports, leisure and hobbies. And we’re constantly expanding the ways in which we can support both therapists and their clients.
This year at the OT Show, we are delighted to demonstrate the latest additions to our range, alongside our long-running favourites! If you haven’t come across our company before, our stand is full of fantastic solutions that you can explore and get ‘hands-on’ with. From gym aids and aids for fishing, gardening and getting out on the water, to kitchen tools, personal care, dressing aids... and beyond! Our friendly, knowledgeable team members are happy to answer your questions and demonstrate our products.

If you are already familiar with us, this year we have some amazing new solutions to demonstrate that fit fully with our ethos of high-quality, effective solutions to everyday frustrations. These include the Vilim Ball. This AI-controlled unit delivers personalised vibration therapy to temporarily reduce tremors for up to 4 hours. Clinical trials focused on users with Parkinson’s-related hand tremors and Essential tremors and show an amazing response.

Several of our newest products focus on solving those little ‘everyday’ frustrations that can really add up over time. Our Car Window Switches make opening and closing your windows so much simpler – important for both comfort and safety. The EasyPee-sy Male Catheter Tool assists males with reduced hand function to catheterise independently, thanks to its firm grip and ergonomic design. And finally, the P’KUP and P’KUP Adaptor create a small, easy to carry solution to picking up playing cards. This sits alongside our existing range of card holders to support everyone to join in confidently with games nights.

We recognise what vital work occupational therapists undertake in supporting those with disabilities to problem-solve and overcome frustrations in accessing tasks of daily living. To best support you, this year we have been further developing our ‘professionals resources’. In the Professionals area of our website, you’ll find detailed product guides as well as information on the assessment packs we have available. Earlier this year we also released the second of our FREE, CPD modules. This is available via our website and is titled, ‘Enabling Confidence and Independence in the Kitchen.’ The 45-minute video covers tips, techniques and products that support eating, drinking and cooking. It contains case-studies and information on supporting clients with upper limb difference, chronic illness, spinal cord injury, children and parents with disabilities and much more. Certificates of attendance are available and it meets the HCPC requirements for CPD.
