Easy-Up: Saving Time for Care Professionals while Empowering the Citizens through Independence and Quality of Life
Britt Guldborg gained more independence and confidence with Easy-Up

Independence, Confidence and Quality of Life: Britt Guldborg's story

In 2020, Britt Guldborg suffered a brain haemorrhage that left her paralysed on her left side and dramatically changed her life.

As a result, many everyday tasks, such as opening a can of tuna or peeling an egg, became a struggle, leaving her dependent on help from others. For Britt, having to rely on others affected both her independence and self-confidence.

That is why practical solutions can make such a meaningful difference.

Britt has found Easy-Up particularly helpful. By holding jars, bowls and other objects securely in place with innovative vacuum technique, Easy-Up acts as an extra hand, allowing her to manage more everyday tasks independently.

As Britt explains:

“It may sound strange, but when you work hard every day to become more independent, products like this really can make a difference. Besides reducing the number of hours I need assistance, being able to do more on my own also boosts my confidence. It helps create a positive cycle.”

Britt's story is a reminder that independence is not just about completing tasks. It is also about confidence, dignity and the freedom to participate in everyday life.

"As an occupational therapist, it's always rewarding to help someone become more self-reliant"

Occupational therapist Lise Berthelsen emphasises the importance of independence in everyday life:

“Being able to do things on your own is a great source of quality of life, and Easy-Up can help you become more self-reliant. A product like Easy-Up can be a big help for people who have difficulty using both hands or have reduced strength in one or both hands. Being able to secure something in place is a big help when it comes to making the most of the strength you have.”

For occupational therapists, assistive devices can be valuable tools in helping people live more independently. Lise particularly highlights how Easy-Up can be useful in the kitchen, but also how it can help people open their medication packaging and take their medication independently.

“As an occupational therapist, it's always rewarding to help someone become more self-reliant. That's what we work towards as occupational therapists: enabling people to live as independently as possible. That's why it's rewarding to introduce an assistive device that can help with tasks others might consider small, but which can actually be a significant challenge for the person experiencing difficulties.”

Making a difference in health care with Easy-Up

Following a trial of Easy-Up in the Danish municipality of Esbjerg, the municipality recognised the potential of the assistive device to free up valuable resources. When people can manage more everyday tasks independently, their need for assistance may decrease.

At Handigood, we estimate that Easy-Up can save approximately six minutes of assistance with meals each day. That adds up to around three hours per month and 36 hours per year for each person using Easy-Up – almost an entire working week that could be spent supporting other needs.

By helping people become more independent, Easy-Up can strengthen their confidence and quality of life, while allowing care professionals to make better use of their time.

Handigood is actively looking for new resellers to partner up with, so don't hesitate to reach out for a talk, if Easy-Up or any of our other products sound interesting to you. We'll be at stand F30 at the OT Show and we are looking forward to seeing you.
