Driving Mobility supports a UK-wide network of accredited, independent centres providing specialist driving and mobility-related assessments for people whose health condition, disability, or age may affect their ability to drive, or who wish to use equipment such as mobility scooters and powered wheelchairs. Our centres across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, each deliver assessments to a consistent, clinically informed standard. We work closely with key stakeholders including the DVLA, NHS, Motability and the Department for Transport.

Our assessments are carried out by qualified clinicians working alongside Approved Driving Instructors (ADIs), bringing together clinical expertise and practical, on-road evaluation. For occupational therapists, our centres can be a valuable referral point. Whether a client is returning to driving after illness or injury, exploring vehicle adaptations, or considering a mobility scooter or powered wheelchair, our assessments help build a clearer picture of what's safe and appropriate for that individual.

Across the network we encounter a wide range of health conditions and disabilities, commonly working with stroke survivors and individuals living with dementia, spinal cord and brain injuries, multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, limb loss and limb difference, as well as neurodivergent people and others considering learning to drive.

Clinician-led assessment matters because decisions about driving and mobility equipment can have a significant impact on a person's independence, confidence and quality of life. Getting this right requires more than a general impression — it requires informed, individualised assessment that takes account of medical history, physical and cognitive function, and practical demands of the task in hand.
