Launching in September, EasiTilt has been developed to address a clear gap in the seating pathway. It is intended for individuals whose needs have progressed beyond what can be managed effectively with a standard armchair or rise and recline chair, but who do not require the complexity of a highly specialist seating system.

Changes in posture, sitting tolerance and functional ability can occur as a result of ageing, illness, injury or disability. These may present as forward sliding, lateral leaning, reduced sitting tolerance, fatigue or an increasing reliance on others for repositioning. EasiTilt provides a supportive alternative, combining Tilt-in-Space positioning with adaptable postural support in a chair designed to remain practical and intuitive for everyday use.

Designed around the individual

EasiTilt incorporates Tilt-in-Space, allowing the seating system to tilt while maintaining the relationship between the pelvis, trunk and lower limbs. This may support pelvic stability, pressure redistribution, fatigue management and repositioning. Adjustable seat width and seat depth enable the chair to be configured around individual postural requirements, supporting personalised and repeatable set-up.

The chair is available with five back options, providing different levels of postural support and comfort. These include Open Flat, Winged Flat, Winged Contoured, Winged Waterfall and Winged Cocoon configurations, with further postural accessories available where required.

Other features include an elevating and negative-angle leg rest, angle-adjustable flip-up footplate, removable Transfer-Assist arms, pressure-redistributing Reflexion® foam, adjustable-height push handle and a choice of manual or motorised operation.

EasiTilt has been designed for use across domestic settings, residential and nursing homes, hospital wards and rehabilitation environments. It is a registered Class I medical device, with an adjustable seat width of 400 to 500 mm, seat depth of 400 to 560 mm and a maximum user weight of 160 kg.

Clinical reasoning at the heart of the launch

Alongside the product, CareFlex has developed a dedicated EasiTilt Clinical Justification to support health and social care professionals with assessment, provision and equipment justification.

The document considers six key objectives of effective seating provision: comfort, function and independence, postural support, pressure management, health and safety, and wellbeing. It also provides guidance on the clinical indicators that may suggest EasiTilt is an appropriate seating intervention.

“For us, launching a new chair is about much more than adding another product to the range. We want clinicians, care providers, families and our dealer partners to understand why the product exists, who it may be appropriate for and what we are trying to achieve through seating.

“That is why the clinical justification is such an important part of the EasiTilt launch. The product needs to be supported by clear clinical reasoning and, ultimately, by meaningful outcomes for the individual.”

Real-world outcomes

The EasiTilt Clinical Justification also includes a case study demonstrating the potential impact of appropriate supportive seating.

Mark, 52, lives in a specialist nursing home and requires 24-hour care. Due to instability and involuntary movement, conventional seating had become unsafe and ineffective. He was primarily cared for on the floor within a padded environment, and activities including eating and drinking took place on the floor. Feeding required two members of staff, one to support his positioning and another to assist with intake.

Following the introduction of an EasiTilt with pommel support and a secure tray system, Mark was able to sit safely in a chair and eat in a seated position for the first time in more than two years. Feeding support reduced from two members of staff to one. He was also able to sit outside his room and participate in activities, while family visits became a more positive and dignified experience.

His care team also reported reduced physical demands during care delivery, while Mark was described as more comfortable, more settled and more willing to sit out in the chair. The case study highlights improvements in safe and functional sitting, mealtime positioning, reliance on floor-based care, quality of life and care efficiency.

Building the EasiTilt dealer network

CareFlex is supporting the launch with new product literature, clinical justification, user guidance, training and demonstration opportunities.

The company is also seeking additional EasiTilt stockists as it develops the product's UK dealer network.
