This session explores why knowing how to manage fatigue does not always translate into action. Charles Talbot will introduce the concept of Becoming Fatigue Minded—developing the ability to notice physical, cognitive and emotional signs of fatigue before reaching exhaustion. Drawing on occupational therapy, neuroscience and clinical experience, the session will examine how fatigue accumulates, why people continue to push through, and how earlier awareness can support more sustainable occupational participation. Attendees will be introduced to practical tools, including the Fatigue Bucket Analogy, Green–Amber–Red monitoring, the 1–90–1 principle and Momenting: brief, intentional pauses that create space to notice, regulate and respond. The session will offer a compassionate and practical approach that can be applied across neurological and long-term health conditions, supporting people to work with their energy rather than repeatedly exceeding it.
