An experienced Occupational Therapist with a passion for innovation in stroke rehabilitation, we have developed a community-based approach that combines virtual reality (VR) and the restorative power of nature to enhance recovery and wellbeing.

My presentation shares the journey behind this idea, exploring why integrating immersive VR experiences with nature-based environments can support meaningful functional outcomes for stroke survivors. Drawing on early service evaluation data and feedback from participants, I will discuss the therapeutic benefits observed, the importance of working collaboratively with stroke survivors, and how their experiences have shaped the programme. I will also explain why nature is central to my own practice and its wider significance for health, motivation, and engagement in rehabilitation. Attendees will gain an overview of the VR programme, how it has been implemented within community stroke services, and its potential to offer an accessible, person-centred approach that supports recovery, confidence, and participation in everyday life.
