The perfect storm – the challenges of housing and health in Northern Ireland
Northern Ireland faces a "perfect storm" where growing housing pressures and increasing health and social care needs are converging to create significant challenges for individuals, families, and public services. An ageing population, rising levels of disability and chronic illness, limited availability of accessible and adapted housing alongside increasing pressures on health and social care resources are all contributing to unmet need. The presentation explores how housing and health are intrinsically linked, highlighting the impact that unsuitable housing can have on wellbeing, independence, hospital discharge, and quality of life. It also examines the need for stronger partnership working across health and housing to develop innovative, sustainable solutions that improve outcomes and support people to live safely and independently in their own homes.
