The overlap advantage: OT–SLT co-working for stronger outcomes

26 Nov 2026
Theatre 2
Children and young people

In school-based practice, children rarely present with needs that sit neatly within one professional area. Communication, sensory processing, regulation, attention, motor planning and participation are closely connected, and working in parallel can risk duplication, missed opportunities or overwhelming pupils and staff with separate plans.

This session will explore how a school-based OT and SLT team has developed a shared approach to designing and delivering creative, integrated interventions. We will consider what it looks like when OT and SLT share interventions, and at times share goals, while still recognising each profession’s distinct contribution. Attendees will gain practical insight into joint decision making that leads to a focus on keeping support timely, meaningful and effective for pupils.
