The neuroscience of self-regulation: Brains, bodies and belonging - Why occupational therapy matters

25 Nov 2026
Keynote Theatre
Neuro
Self-regulation underpins how we think, feel, behave and engage in everyday life. Rather than being an individual skill, it emerges through ongoing interactions between the brain, body, relationships, environment and occupation. This session translates the neuroscience of self-regulation into practical, evidence-informed occupational therapy. Through a neuro-affirmative lens, participants will explore how cognitive, emotional, sensory, physiological and behavioural processes shape participation, and how occupational therapists can use co-regulation, occupation and environmental adaptation to support health, wellbeing and meaningful engagement across the lifespan.
