Raising the bar - above and beyond the transfer – elevating care beyond passive transfer to maximised mobility opportunities throughout the care pathway

For a long time, patient hoists have been seen as passive and viewed primarily as a safer way of lifting, repositioning and transferring patients in acute, long term and home care. While maintaining safety in transfers and reducing risk of injury to both caregiver and patient is essential, the value of maintaining, and where possible, improving patient mobility should be acknowledged. Optimizing patient mobility is associated with improved function, enhanced independence, reduced complications associated with immobility, and better overall outcomes.
This presentation explores how lifting devices can actually promote and support mobility, challenging existing misconceptions about 'passivity' in hoist use. Simultaneously, we will focus on the most appropriate hoist and sling selection to maximise mobility moments and support individual patient function.
