Sustainable use of community equipment - OTs are key
Climate change is the biggest threat to health in the 21st Century (WHO, 2016). Greener NHS is attempting to mitigate for it and become the first net zero health service in the world. Responsible use of resources is key and yet in all areas of community equipment services we observe barriers to achieving this. Working collaboratively with service users, suppliers and commissioners, OTs can play an essential part in the improved use of resources, to save money and waste, and provide better care. Lessons learned from other countries and through recent research will provide suggestions and recommendations. Sustainable initiatives from OTs in the UK will also be highlighted to encourage wider implementation.
