Supporting every bite: paediatric occupational therapy for infants and children with complex feeding difficulties

25 Nov 2026
Innovation Theatre

Eating and mealtimes are one of the most crucial and demanding, yet under-supported occupations of childhood and a vital co-occupation for children and their caregivers. Feeding difficulties span a wide spectrum, from picky eating and Autistic eating preferences to Paediatric Feeding Disorder (PFD) and Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID). Prevalence is rising sharply: 89% of Autistic children are estimated to experience feeding differences (Gent et al, 2025). Teresa Foley will draw on clinical experience at her specialist clinic, The Feeding Therapist, to make the case for Occupational Therapy's essential role with this client group, sharing evidence-based, neuro-affirmative strategies for lasting change.
