Managing complex and diverse manual handling situations

25 Nov 2026
Innovation Theatre

Supporting people with complex conditions requires more than following standard manual handling techniques. In this clinically focused session, Occupational Therapists Kirsty Ryan and Kat Stafford will explore how tonal changes, paratonia, dementia, Parkinson's disease and agitation can significantly influence movement, positioning and handling. Delegates will also learn the importance of understanding what matters most to the individual, ensuring manual handling approaches are centred on the person's goals, preferences and desired outcomes. Through real-life case studies and evidence-based guidance, this interactive session will provide practical strategies and greater confidence to manage some of the most challenging situations in health and social care.
