This workshop introduces a human lens and the participation web as metaphors for compassionate care with practical tools for understanding how sensory foundations shape everyday participation.

Informed by occupational science and grounded in co-production, social and occupational justice, it explores participation as more than being present, joining in or completing expected tasks. Participation is understood as a human experience shaped by sensory integration, safety, relationships, environments, autonomy, meaning, identity, belonging and opportunity. The session invites participants to move MDTs beyond behaviour-focused interpretations and to consider what may be supporting or restricting engagement. Through the participation web, participants will explore how to notice barriers, recognise strengths and reflect on what may need to change around the person, rather than within the person. This workshop supports shared language for families, professionals and communities, helping people feel safer, understood and able to take part in meaningful occupations that bring connection, purpose and belonging.
