Doing what matters, being kind, becoming sustainable: occupational therapy and belonging in a safer world

25 Nov 2026
Keynote Theatre
Sustainablity

This keynote explores sustainability as a core occupational therapy concern. Drawing on the concepts of doing, being, becoming and belonging, it will explore how sustainable occupational therapy practice connects with purpose, kindness, safety and collective wellbeing. In a polarised world, people may hold very different beliefs and priorities but we all need safe homes, safe communities, safe services and a safe, liveable planet. The session will invite attendees to see sustainability as kindness made practical: a way of organising our occupations, services and systems so that more people can belong in a safer world. Attendees will gain a values-led framework for understanding why sustainability matters, how it relates to occupational therapy and how it can inspire meaningful change in practice.
