Assistive technology for upper limb impairment: screening, evidence and funding

25 Nov 2026
Theatre 1
Housing, equipment and adaptions
This presentation will give occupational therapists a deep dive into how advanced assistive technologies can enable people with upper limb impairment to regain and retain independence.

Specialist Occupational Therapist, Lauren Edwards will guide the audience through the range of symptoms and conditions which can be supported through the use of a wide range of Advanced Assistive Technologies (ATs) from arm supports and dining aids, through to smart wheelchair controls. We will look beyond impairment, to explore the technology pathway that end users might follow for those with progressive conditions such as MND and Muscular Dystrophy. Occupational therapists will learn about screening tools to determine appropriate ATs and considerations required to support an evidence-based case for funding.
